A Day Out For 3 Big Dogs
"Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." ― Anatole France
One of Sejla’s dreams was for elderly Gringo, a large Sarplaninac (Shepherd Dog) to go for a run in a park, to be able to paddle, and to sample some of the delights of a home environment, which he had never had. Sejla knew of the perfect place about 15 miles (24 km) from the shelter; a beauty spot popular with tourists and visitors to Sarajevo. For company, it was decided that equally elderly Freddie should go along for a much-deserved treat too.
Donations for the travel were collected, a dog taxi was booked, and on a lovely summer Sunday morning Sejla and her cousin took these two very elderly dogs for their day out. Supporters were surprised and delighted when they saw photographs of this outing, as Sejla had decided to take Adele along with them.
The outing was not without its drama, as the dog taxi broke down on the motorway. They eventually arrived at this beautiful country park, complete with lovely lake and enjoyed a picnic, whilst the dogs paddled to their hearts content.
These three large and wonderful dogs caused quite a stir and attracted lots of attention, all recently groomed and with their colourful dog bandanas, which they all wore with pride. They were asked by tourists to pose for many photographs throughout the day. This was Gringo’s day, but it proved to be a wonderful treat for Freddie and Adele too.
